Electron Beam Melting (EBM)

The basis for the Arcam Technology is Electron Beam Melting (EBM). During the EBM process, the electron beam melts metal powder in a layer-by-layer process to build the physical part. The Arcam EBM machines use a powder bed configuration and are capable of producing multiple parts in the same build.

The vacuum environment in the EBM machine maintains the chemical composition of the material and provides an excellent environment for building parts with reactive materials such as titanium alloys. The electron beam’s high power ensures a high rate of deposition and an even temperature distribution within the part, which gives a fully melted metal with excellent mechanical and physical properties.

This unique technology is the result of intensive research and development and has a wide array of applications within Rapid Manufacturing. The Arcam EBM machines are used for the rapid manufacturing of Medical Implants and a range of products for the Aerospace and Automotive industries.

Arcam’s CAD to Metal® technology provides material characteristics identical to the target metals used while maintaining a high build rate. Simply put, Arcam offers highly productive Rapid Manufacturing machines for cost efficient production of parts with unsurpassed material properties.
