Rapid manufacturing
(Low Volume Manufacturing)
With increased competition from the global economy, manufacturers
face the challenge of delivering new customized products
more quickly than before to meet customer demands. A delayed
development or delivery can mean business failure. Several
technologies collectively known as Rapid Manufacturing (RM)
have been developed to shorten the design and production
cycle, and promise to revolutionize many traditional manufacturing
procedures.
RM also includes the fast fabrication of the tools required
for mass production, such as specially-shaped molds, dies,
and jigs.
The CAD to Metal process developed by Arcam is the ideal
manufacturing method for Rapid Manufacturing of parts in
Low Volumes. The process is extremely fast and parts can be produced in
titanium or cobalt chrome alloys. Final machining
can be done with any conventional method such as high-speed
milling, turning, grinding, EDM etc.
In service, the manufactured parts can sustain real operating
conditions and be subjected to high mechanical loads and
temperatures. The parts can also feature geometries that
cannot be achieved in other manufacturing technologies.
